Bolts Insider: Keys To A Rangers Victory

It has certainly been an interesting few days for the Lightning, and now that Nemo/Snowmageddon/Blizzard 2013 or whatever you’d like to call it is behind them, I’m sure the Bolts are finally happy to be looking forward to looking at scouting reports instead of weather reports.

Yesterday Tampa Bay held their usual morning skate, only with road conditions less than ideal and a travel ban in place they had a police escort. A couple of close calls and after getting pelted by a few snowballs from Bostonians on the street the team made to TD Garden and had their usual morning skate. After not hearing anything for some time regarding the game I figured it was going to be played, but just before 3 p.m. word came down that the game was cancelled. Travel plans quickly changed and at 4 p.m. the team bus hit the road for New York. A little more than five hours later, for what would normally be a four-hour drive, the Bolts pulled into their hotel in Manhattan for tonight’s final game of the road trip.

Mathieu Garon gets the start in goal for the Bolts. He was slated to start yesterday’s postponed game in Boston and they elected to stick with him.

In other roster news, Tampa Bay flip-flopped players with the Syracuse Crunch today, recalling forward Alex Killorn and assigning Dana Tyrell to the AHL after he cleared waivers. Killorn will be in the line-up tonight against the Rangers.

After the game the Lightning will get on the plan and return to Tampa. They have Monday off before taking on the Montreal Canadiens at the Tampa Bay Times Forum on Tuesday.

Thing to Keep an Eye On: The first period. Both the Lightning and Rangers are very good if they can get out of the first period with the lead. They are a combined 9-0-0 this season when leading after the first 20 minutes with Lightning being 6-0-0 and New York being 3-0-0.

On the Rise: Getting the first one. The Lightning are 5-1-0 when scoring the first goal this season. They have also outscored their opponents 13-3 in the first period. Unfortunately, the Bolts are 1-3-0 when allowing the first goal.

King Henrik: Henrik Lundqvist will get the start for the Rangers tonight. He was on the bench when the Bolts and Rangers hooked up in Tampa Bay in favor of Martin Biron. It was the only time this season Lundqvist did not start.
